As Ford takes the wraps off the new 2011 Explorer today with a stellar, multi-city throwback reveal combined with a social media offensive its easy to see why theyre excited about it. The new Explorer is lighter, much better looking, safer, quieter, exhaustively equipped, technically sophisticated, dramatically more efficient and with light-years better driving dynamics thrown-in for good measure. In short, there is nothing about the 2011 version of the Explorer that bears any resemblance to the vehicle that came before it. The only thing the new vehicle shares with the old one is the name, which has...

"Whenever you get new laws and "reform," unintended consequences are sure to follow. Usually they take awhile. Not so with Dodd-Frank. WSJ reports that Ford has already yanked a bond deal, because the ratings agencies, fearing legal liability, won't let the automaker puts their ratings in the prospectus, making a sale impossible. So did Dodd-Frank just kill the bond market? Well, probably not.. Regulators will likely find some way around this impasse, but it's still amusing to see the bill INSTANTLY slow down the gears of capitalism (or at least capital raising) as its fiercest critics might have suggested."
New pep, power for (refurbished) Lakewood cop cars (WA)

Lakewood police are refurbishing some of their squad cars rather than buying new ones, a decision that could save the city $15,000 per upgraded car and help the vehicles handle better on the street. For such a simple idea, it is really paying dividends, said Assistant Police Chief Michael Zaro. So far its been successful in saving us a lot of money, and were supporting a local business. The department has about 60 Ford Crown Victorias patrolling the streets. About 30 could be eligible to be refurbished, depending on their mileage and wear. New models will replace the other cars...

The Missouri Manufacturing Jobs Act, which includes an incentive package of as much as $100 million for Ford Motor Co., is headed to Gov. Jay Nixon. An initial bill had passed the House in late June, but stalled in the Senate, which passed its version of the bill 20-7 about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday after a filibuster attempt. The House then approved the Senate bill by a 101-40 vote, sending it to Nixon, who released a statement Wednesday afternoon supporting the initiatives passage. With the sharper, stronger economic tools provided by this jobs bill, Missouri can make sure that our automotive...
Tax Credits For Ford Are A Bad Deal For Taxpayers

Everyone that knows me knows that I have a special place in my heart for Missouri politics. For us political junkies, there has been lots of excitement. At the end of June, Missouri Governor Jay Nixon called a special session to do two things. 1) Pass tax incentives to keep the Ford plant in Claycomo, Missouri and 2) reform Missouris state pension plan for future state employees. A 20+ hour filibuster against the $150 million tax credit proposal ended this morning in the Missouri Senate. Im not a fan of corporate tax incentives. Ford has (not publicly, but to politicians)...

Give Missouri state Sen. Chuck Purgason credit for being an outspoken critic of the fuzzy logic being used to promote a huge taxpayer subsidy for Fords Claycomo plant. Purgason isnt going quietly Monday, the day he was ousted as chairman of the Government Accountability and Fiscal Oversight Committee, with the help of Senate President Pro Tem Charlie Shields. Said Purgason in a hot-off-the-press statement: I guess (Shields) doesnt like the way Im holding government accountable. Ouch.
Ford: A four-letter word around the Missouri Capitol

JEFFERSON CITY In the Missouri Capitol, "Ford" has become a four-letter word. "This is not about rewarding one company," state Rep. Jerry Nolte, R-Gladstone, told fellow House members last week as they were debating the Ford bill that Nolte is sponsoring. Nolte was careful not to mention the four letters that have become the center of attention in the special session called by Gov. Jay Nixon: F-O-R-D. For Nolte and other lawmakers pushing the bill, they put on their best dodge anytime a lawmaker or reporter refers to the economic incentive package as the "Ford bill." "This is not...
