Ford's New Pickup Line: Like My Tough V-6?

Posted by admin / Under Ford Torino

Are U.S. pickup truck buyers prepared to set aside their love affair with V-8 engines and climb into more fuel-efficient models instead? Ford Motor Co. is about to run a high-stakes test of this by promoting a high-tech, six-cylinder engine in its best-selling vehicle. This fall, Ford will introduce a 300 horsepower V-6 engine and a new six-speed transmission in its F-150 pickups—the No. 1 seller in a market where eight cylinders now rule. And for the first time, Ford will offer a V-6 in its popular crew cab model, which accounts for 60% of all F-150 sales, says F-150...

Obama: I saved Ford by bailing out its competitors

They didn’t take his bailout money, but the president claims credit all the same: The year before I took office, this industry lost hundreds of thousands of jobs. Sales plunged 40 percent — 40 percent. When the financial crisis hit and this great recession hit, that collided with an industry that for a long time had put off some hard choices, had put off adapting to changing times. And we had to face a hard, unimaginable reality, which was two of the Big Three automakers — GM and Chrysler — were on the brink of liquidation.

Ford’s Idea: Pay More To Get Less

Ford Motor Co. recently announced its new plan to spur interest in the redesigned 2011 Explorer: Ask customers to pay more to get less. The vehicle will come with a standard 3.5-liter V-6 engine with 290 horsepower, but, for a little extra, Ford will swap in a less powerful four-cylinder engine instead. This makes me wonder: Is there something in Detroit’s water that causes automobile executives make bizarre decisions?...

As Ford takes the wraps off the new 2011 Explorer today – with a stellar, multi-city “throwback” reveal combined with a social media offensive – it’s easy to see why they’re excited about it. The new Explorer is lighter, much better looking, safer, quieter, exhaustively equipped, technically sophisticated, dramatically more efficient and with light-years better driving dynamics thrown-in for good measure. In short, there is nothing about the 2011 version of the Explorer that bears any resemblance to the vehicle that came before it. The only thing the new vehicle shares with the old one is the name, which has...
