House Passes Financial Services Bill; Mandates Racial Favoritism

Thursday 9th of September 2010 08:17:25 PM

Supporters call it "financial services reform." Yet one has to wonder what the Restoring American Financial Stability Act of 2010 is reforming or stabilizing. The House on Wednesday by a 237-192 margin passed the 2,300-plus-page conference bill designed to protect American households from predatory practices by banks, subprime lenders, brokerage houses and other intermediaries. But evidence suggests that if it becomes law, the bill instead will lay the groundwork for another major federal bailout. During House-Senate conference sessions, affirmative action zealots inserted a host of mandates to promote credit allocation by race. Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., and Rep. Barney Frank,...

A Gulf state senator ripped BP chief executive Tony Hayward for taking time off Saturday to attend a glitzy yacht race around England's Isle of Wight as oil spewing into the Gulf continues to wreak havoc on the environment and wildlife. "That's the height of arrogance," Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., told Fox News on Saturday.

Shelby’s Lesson For Tea Parties

Thursday 9th of September 2010 08:17:25 PM
Posted by admin / Under Shelby Mustang

On paper, GOP Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama should have been a great target for a Tea Party challenge. He’s a notorious porker, has a lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union of 75 (lower than Utah Sen. Bob Bennett’s 83), and switched parties from the Democrats to Republicans, although it was back in 1994. Shelby did attract a Tea Party challenger in the GOP primary, Clint Moser. Yet Moser played Bambi to Shelby’s Godzilla,

Vanity - Just Voted in the Alabama Republican Primary

I just voted in my local GOP primary. I voted against my Senator and my Representative (Richard Shelby and Spenser Bachus). Both are reasonably solid Conservatives, and both will win their primaries easily.I voted against them to encourage others to run against them in the future. By my calculation, every vote against an encumbent is a vote to encourage potential candidates in the future.Thoughts?

Reform bill should include Fannie, Freddie: Shelby

Thursday 9th of September 2010 08:17:25 PM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Financial reform legislation being debated by the Senate needs to overhaul government involvement in U.S. mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Senator Richard Shelby, the lead Republican on the Senate Banking Committee, said on Saturday. As the Senate moves toward a final vote on the bill in the coming weeks, Shelby said it must include reforms for Fannie and Freddie to address the root cause of the recent financial crisis. "For decades, these multi-trillion dollar institutions leveraged the implicit backing of the American taxpayer to encourage mortgage lending to people who could not afford to...

Dodd Says "Immigration Reform" on Front Burner for Democrats; Must Have "National Answer" - Video

Thursday 9th of September 2010 08:17:25 PM

Here is video from "Meet the Press" today where Democrat Sen. Chris Dodd said the new Arizona anti-Illegal Immigration Law shows that a "national answer" is needed on Immigration Reform. Dodd said the issue will now be on the front burner for Democrats. GOP Sen. Richard Shelby agreed that a patchwork of laws in various states is not good, but said the first thing that should be done is that the Federal Government ought to "enforce our borders," and then deal with "the rest." It certainly looks like Democrats are going to make a push on Immigration, if for no...
